Red Bull Erzbergrodeo SEGWAY Quad Challenge: The Return of the Mighty 4x4 Machines
Segway Powersports makes it possible: with the SEGWAY Quad Challenge, the spectacular four-wheel-drive quads are returning to the Erzberg. The newly introduced quad class for 2026 is set to shake up the Iron Road Prolog.
A look back at 30 years of Red Bull Erzbergrodeo history shows that quads have a long-standing tradition on the “Mountain of Iron.” As early as the 2000s, fearless riders took on the challenges of the high-speed gravel prolog leading to the summit of the Erzberg. Stories of wide-open throttles hitting the rev limiter and the world’s biggest offroad party quickly spread throughout the European quad community, attracting more and more riders with powerful 4x4 machines to sign up for the Iron Road Prolog.
Starting in 2005, a dedicated quad classification was introduced as part of the Iron Road Prolog, recognizing nearly 100 riders from across Europe. By 2017, however, interest declined, the prolog course became significantly more selective, and the quad category was ultimately discontinued.
Segway Powersports will once again serve as the mobility partner of the Red Bull Erzbergrodeo in 2026.
Beyond the Red Bull Erzbergrodeo Arena—the vibrant event hub at the foot of the Erzberg—the terrain becomes relentlessly rugged, reflecting the extreme nature of the world’s most renowned off-road event. Outside the specially designated traffic systems and spectator zones, only highly durable and capable off-road vehicles can operate. Since 2025, Segway Powersports has been the official mobility partner of the Red Bull Erzbergrodeo, providing its powerful, high-quality 4x4 vehicles for essential organizational tasks throughout the event.
At Erzberg, the ATV models Snarler AT10 and Snarler AT6, as well as the UTV model Fugleman UT6 equipped with a practical cargo bed, are primarily used. “Segway ATVs and UTVs are key components of our mobile organizational structure. From security coordination across the entire site to infrastructure setup within the Red Bull Erzbergrodeo Arena, as well as supporting our mobile branding teams and offering a unique transport service for the international press, these off-road vehicles are indispensable for ensuring smooth operations behind the scenes,” explains event organizer Mark Schilling.
